A detailed introduction to cottonseed husks

Cottonseed husk, also known as cotton husk, is the outer shell of cotton seeds separated by a sheller. Depending on the type of shelling machinery, variety of cotton seeds, origin, moisture content, and degree of screening of crushed cotton kernel powder after shelling, etc. The size, color, length of cotton lint, and nutritional composition (including cotton kernel powder) of the processed cottonseed shell also vary. Cottonseed husks are mainly used for breeding edible and medicinal fungi, as feed, and raising livestock.

Seed cotton is processed by a ginning machine to remove cotton seeds and obtain lint, while cotton seeds are processed by a linter to obtain short fibers such as first, second, and third layers. The more times the lint is cut, the less residual cotton lint there is. In this case, cotton seeds are called "bare seeds", while those with more residual cotton lint are called "hairy seeds". The cotton husks produced by light seeds are mostly small (less) velvety shells or "iron shells". The cotton husks with less kernel powder have less cellulose content and are suitable for cultivating wood rot fungi; The cotton husk with a high cellulose content is suitable for cultivating grass rot fungi due to its abundant lint and kernel powder. Cottonseed husk is known as the universal culture medium for edible and medicinal fungi. Cottonseed husks are usually divided into large, medium, and small husks, or even called "iron husks" depending on the amount of cotton lint. The amount of lint content depends on when the raw material cottonseed is stripped of short lint. If the market price of cotton short lint is high and popular, manufacturers will try to cut as much short lint as possible. There is not much difference in the size of cotton husks in terms of yield in edible mushroom cultivation. Because many oil factories produce large shells that are crushed to form small shells to meet cultivation requirements. Mainly reflected in the technical requirements for bagging density during the cultivation process of edible mushrooms: if the density of small shell bagging is too high, it will lead to poor bacterial growth and ventilation; When bagging with large shells, it is also easy to break the cultivation bag.
